Information on the case from local sources, may or may not be correct : Brubaker was last seen in Ashland, Ohio in October 2005. According to his mother, he called her on October 13 and asked if she could give him a ride to Wooster, Ohio the next day, as he had a court appearance. His boss stated he'd asked for that day off, but said he'd show up in the morning to pick up his paycheck. He never showed up at his workplace or at court, and has never been heard from again.
Brubaker's girlfriend lived next door to his boss, and his boss was under the impression that Brubaker lived there too. He thought he saw the couple together in the backyard of their home at 6:30 a.m. on October 14.
Brubaker's girlfriend, however, said he didn't live with her and that he'd actually disappeared about a week earlier than his boss and his mother thought. This statement is supported by Brubaker's cellular phone records, which indicate his last call was on October 7, not October 13.
It wasn't uncharacteristic of Brubaker to drop out of sight, sometimes for months at a time, and when he disappeared in October 2005 his girlfriend initially thought he'd gone to see a friend of his who lived in New York. However, authorities tracked down the New York friend and he had said Brubaker had never arrived in New York and he had no idea where he was.
Although some people who knew Brubaker said he'd told them he would like to leave the area and never come back, his family doesn't believe he would have left of his own accord, as he was very close to his mother and they don't think he would have left her without a word. He also didn't pick up his last paycheck.
There are rumors that Brubaker met with foul play, but the circumstances of his disappearance are unclear. His case remains unsolved.

Ohio Attorney General's Office
A missing person is a person who has disappeared and whose status as alive or dead cannot be confirmed as their location and condition are not known. A person may go missing through a voluntary disappearance, or else due to an accident, crime, death in a location where they cannot be found (such as at sea), or many other reasons. In most parts of the world, a missing person will usually be found quickly. While criminal abductions are some of the most widely reported missing person cases, these account for only 2–5% of missing children in Europe. By contrast, some missing person cases remain unresolved for many years. Laws related to these cases are often complex since, in many jurisdictions, relatives and third parties may not deal with a person's assets until their death is considered proven by law and a formal death certificate issued. The situation, uncertainties, and lack of closure or a funeral resulting when a person goes missing may be extremely painful with long-lasting effects on family and friends. Several organizations seek to connect, share best practices, and disseminate information and imAge at the time of disappearance: s of missing children to improve the effectiveness of missing children investigations, including the International Commission on Missing Persons, the International Centre for Missing & Exploited Children (ICMEC), as well as national organizations, including the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children in the US, Missing People in the UK, Child Focus in Belgium, and The Smile of the Child in Greece.
